In some situations this has gone as far as to be described as libel. While some of these \u2018clickbait\u2019 articles are simply designed to lure the reader to a web page with an unimportant story, there are others which are capable of doing real damage to their targets. In fact, a recent court case defended a businessman whose business was being wrongly criticised online. An injunction was sent via email to prevent the <strong>\u201c<\/strong><\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/law\/2017\/jul\/08\/fake-news-injunction-law-persons-unknown-social-media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u2018fake news\u2019 campaign<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u201d<\/strong> from continuing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The recent general election in the UK saw a wide range of disparaging media bias towards the Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn. Towards the end of the election campaign, some newspapers were clinging to <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/news\/3625746\/the-harm-done-by-jeremy-corbyn-and-john-mcdonnell-sucking-up-to-the-ira\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">any opportunity to criticise his party<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, going to great lengths to carefully cherrypick quotes that would create the most damage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not everything we read in a newspaper or on the internet is necessarily true. It can be really beneficial to find the original source of the information, instead of someone\u2019s interpretations. I wouldn\u2019t be pleased to find my family and friends were happily lying to me, so I don\u2019t accept the same from the global media either!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1305 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.electrictobacconist.co.uk\/image-factory\/8e7c210771c4b6b5216c089339b2f27ab54b9d3c~410x700@2x\/images\/products\/wHb8N7ng6DISfqPZfTjqJOgMkYX8oum5yLoSLKge.jpg\" alt=\"Rolled Up Newspaper with Headline of Fake News Isolated on White Background.\" width=\"700\" height=\"410\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><b>How E-Cigarettes in the UK are Portrayed<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">E-cigarettes in the UK have been portrayed in such a variety of ways that it\u2019s no wonder <\/span><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/ash.org.uk\/information-and-resources\/fact-sheets\/use-of-electronic-cigarettes-vapourisers-among-adults-in-great-britain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">people still believe<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> they are as harmful of smoking tobacco. It\u2019s difficult to know what to believe when one day a newspaper says one thing, and the next it says something <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetofthevapes.co.uk\/news\/vaping-news\/2015-07-28_daily-fail.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">completely different<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fortunately, e-cigarettes and nicotine-free vape are <\/span><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/Conditions\/Smoking-(quitting)\/Pages\/Treatment.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">being recommended<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> throughout the UK by our National Health Service as a successful strategy for cigarette cessation. With large, reputable organisations such as <\/span><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cancerresearchuk.org\/about-us\/cancer-news\/press-release\/2017-02-06-e-cigarettes-safer-than-smoking-says-long-term-study\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cancer Research UK<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcplondon.ac.uk\/news\/promote-e-cigarettes-widely-substitute-smoking-says-new-rcp-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Royal College of Physicians<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> supporting the UK\u2019s e-cigarette industry, ours has grown into one of Europe\u2019s largest vaping communities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But articles continue to pop up that make <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2017\/03\/01\/britains-e-cigarette-boom-data-suggests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">unsubstantiated claims<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, hampering the UK\u2019s e-cigarette industry by using negative wording, unsupported by facts. Simply stating that a recent study has proved something isn\u2019t enough. Correct documentation, and evidence of studies and surveys are essential to fact-driven journalism.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Silencing the Critics<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are an increasing number of <\/span><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vapingpost.com\/2017\/06\/19\/path-study-indicates-that-e-cigs-are-less-addictive-than-regular-cigarettes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">scientific studies<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from around the world that continue to show that electronic cigarettes are a healthier alternative to cigarettes. While e-cigarettes in the UK have only been popular for a few years, it\u2019s simply a matter of time until more people realise their value as a tobacco cessation device. Just as Jeremy Corbyn\u2019s Labour Party defied the odds on June 8th, so too will the UK\u2019s e-cigarette industry!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People need to take more time to consider the information we get bombarded with on a daily basis. Not only are some of the things we read untrue, they can also have a negative impact on the subject of debate.
